murrayville hall

21667 48th Avenue, Langley, B.C.

Text Box: The original Community Hall was built in 1909 on the same site as the present hall. It had an upper floor that was used as the hall and the lower street level was divided into four spaces that served as the front for a variety of local businesses.
The 1909 hall existed until 1924 when it burned as the result of a fire started by careless cigarette smoking. The community pulled together and in 1928 the present hall was built as a memorial of the First World War. The hall has served the social needs of the community by providing a neighbourhood centre for weddings, church events, craft fairs, dances, political gatherings and endless other activities. The hall provides a turn-of-the-century atmosphere with one of the best dance floors in the Fraser Valley.
The kitchen area was added in 1948. The hall has had a number of renovations over the years but still exists for the most part in its original form.
In 2002 the hall was declared a heritage site by the Township of Langley. The hall is operated by a non profit society whose primary objectives are the long term preservation and restoration as a heritage site and effective community use.
The Society extends a warm welcome to all users and welcomes you to join the Society and become involved in the affairs of the hall.
